Leading New Zealand property construction and infrastructure delivery firm RCP formally opened its offices in Vancouver this month, Executive Director Cristean Monreal says.
“Vancouver is the ideal place for us to take our first international steps, with Canada and New Zealand both facing similar social and horizontal infrastructure challenges,” Mr Monreal says.
“We are excited to bring RCP’s consultancy and leadership offering to a new market.”
With extensive experience delivering complex landmark construction projects in New Zealand, from Scott Base in Antarctica to the iconic Auckland Sky Tower, RCP has plenty of specialist expertise to contribute to the Canadian property and infrastructure sector.
“New Zealand is not an easy place to build infrastructure due to the country’s location and isolation, with procurement, lead time and seismic considerations impacting every project,” RCP’s Director of Canadian Operations Bevan Judge says.
“RCP’s point of difference in Canada is that we’re able to apply lessons from the extremely complex, high-risk and high-cost market that we originate from.
“Coming from New Zealand where earthquake and seismic performance are central to infrastructure development, we are well versed in efficiently integrating seismic performance, remediation and resilience into project design.”
RCP are also no strangers to working together with indigenous partners, having established relationships on multiple projects with iwi across New Zealand.
With a partnership-focused approach, RCP are looking forward to working with and learning from First Nations communities, and helping organisations engage meaningfully.
“We are proud to be partnering with leading Secwépemc knowledge holder Dr Garry Gottfriedson, who is helping us grow our capability to engage with First Nations peoples,” Mr Judge says.
“We still have a lot to learn from First Nations peoples, but we feel we have built a genuine foundation to add real and immediate value in this area.”
Health and education are two of the first priorities for RCP’s Canadian operation, which is already hitting the ground running.
“RCP has previously managed the construction of new language schools and college campuses for ILSC Education Group in Australia, so we are thrilled to be able to continue to support them with their exciting new projects in Canada,” Mr Monreal says.
“We are also pleased to announce that RCP has already been appointed to the Project Management Panels for two regional health authorities in British Columbia - Fraser Health Authority and Vancouver Coastal Health.”
RCP British Columbia opened for business in April 2024. Their offices in West Hastings Street were formally opened by Hon Todd McClay, New Zealand's Minister for Trade, in November 2024.
