Biography

No stranger to the grind, Will Armitage entered the workforce as soon as he was able, learning fast and delivering in high pressure environments including event construction for the London 2012 Olympic Games. This commitment is now crucial in his role as RCP’s Wellington Manager.

After completing a Business Management degree from Newcastle University, Will continued to gain broad experience in the construction and property sectors in the UK and Germany.

“My love for exploring new cultures brought me to New Zealand in 2019. I love the people and kinship here. Plus, I’m a huge outdoorsman.”

Upon arrival, Will worked for the Wellington City Council Property team where he developed a passion for project management.

"As my visa was about to expire, I hunted for work that would allow me to stay in Aotearoa and advance in an industry I believe can influence positive change.”

His holistic view of projects, entrepreneurial spirit, and hands-on approach are a perfect fit for RCP and have meant that he has thrived since joining the team. “When things go wrong, it is vital to consider the issue from different angles and perspectives to pin-point the problem and find the best solution.”

Will also prioritises establishing trust to harness a team’s potential. “I recognise everyone’s talents, and I give them the space to do a great job.” Balance is key to Will’s ethos where hard work and celebrating success both hold prominence. “I hold myself and others to a high standard, but I also celebrate the small wins and ensure the team knows they’re winners. I expect hard work, but I also bring a positive energy and like to have a laugh.”

He finds this aligns perfectly with the balance at RCP. “It’s serious but also playful. We put in the mahi, but there is always laughter in the office. It feels like a family.”

Will also champions RCP’s Environmental Committee and is at the forefront of improving the organisation’s sustainability. “My passion for sustainability comes from my love of the outdoors. I see a great opportunity to improve Aotearoa’s construction industry by improving how things are designed and constructed - I aim to bridge the gap between commercial and sustainability aspirations by demonstrating one does not preclude the other.”

As with his work, Will is a fierce competitor outside the office too having won the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Australasia Championship 2021 event in Jiu Jitsu, circumnavigated the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge several times, run the Ian Priest Memorial Hutt River ultramarathon, and recently completed a Half Ironman with colleagues at RCP. That said, “nothing brings me more joy than running Wellington trails with friends and a good head torch”.
