Biography

Simon is a Chartered Civil Engineer with an Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. His early technical career provided a strong analytical foundation, but it was the strategic decisions that shape project outcomes that led him into project management. Understanding why projects move in particular directions, and helping guide them toward better outcomes, has defined his career path.

Simon’s engineering background enables him to engage confidently in technical discussions while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes and value. His approach to problem solving has seen him work across New Zealand and the UK on a wide range of projects, from core infrastructure through to major public and civic developments. He has developed a strong ability to enter new environments, quickly understand how they operate, and adapt his approach to suit the needs of both the project and the delivery team.

He now works primarily in the infrastructure sector with a focus on three waters, supporting delivery across a range of projects and programmes. Simon is particularly focused on bringing structure and clarity to complex environments, improving the quality of reporting, and ensuring decisions are made with a well‑grounded understanding of programme status, risk, and delivery constraints.

A key part of Simon’s approach to successful project delivery lies in setting the right foundations early. He places particular emphasis on building effective teams, establishing clear roles and responsibilities, and putting proportionate governance and delivery structures in place. These early decisions play an important role in helping projects progress smoothly and respond effectively as complexity and scale evolve.

“For me, project management is about doing what’s required to support the team and enable them to successfully deliver a project.”
