Biography

Regan has built up his diverse skills over time “like the layers of an onion”. At RCP, he has successfully brought all of his abilities together under the project management umbrella.

Having studied economics and finance at university, Regan began his career as an insurance broker. But it wasn’t long before he was yearning for a hands-on, outdoors role so he made the leap to carpentry. He completed his apprenticeship and worked as a builder for several years until he was ready for another change and went on to qualify as a quantity surveyor (QS).

Regan landed at RCP in 2018 and he is loving the wide variety of work. Unsurprisingly given his past life as a builder, he enjoys getting construction underway and is adept at managing the process through to completion. His finance background has also imbued him with a strong commercial acumen, which he exercises at the front end of projects.

On the teamwork front, ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’ is one of Regan’s tenets. He confronts issues head on and works with project teams to identify solutions. Not one to hog the spotlight, he prefers to help others develop and shine. His approach has been likened to “growing fruit on other people’s trees”.

When it comes to market challenges, Regan notes the economic headwinds facing the construction industry today. He says there is a good argument for establishing solid plans from the outset and engaging with the right expertise early on to fully explore the opportunities and identify the risks together. Earthquake strengthening is a particular nuance of the Wellington market in which RCP is keeping abreast of the developing requirements and advising clients as to what it means for them.

Outside of work, Regan is an avid long-distance runner and recently won the masters middle-distance men’s trophy for his club. He now shares his love of running with his children and the whole family can often be found pounding the pavement together. Regan has also been known to put his carpentry skills to good use around the house.

“We call ourselves project managers but we are so much more than that; we provide the strategy and the process. We are trusted advisors to our clients.”
