Auckland Council and RCP delve into the future of coastal adaptation planning for Tāmaki Makaurau. The Communities and coast theme within Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland's Climate Plan highlights the Shoreline Adaptation Plans as an initial step for Auckland in adapting to climate changes. The creation of our first-generation Shoreline Adaptation Plans establishes a coordinated, long-term management strategy for all council-owned land and assets situated along our region's extensive 3,200km coastline.
What areas have we done well in, what's currently effective, and how do we gauge our progress? How can we enhance our collaborative efforts to enhance this undertaking, at local, regional, and national levels? In this joint panel discussion, we explore our connections to the coast, the obstacles and prospects tied to coastal hazards, climate change, and their impact on our cultural, social, environmental, and economic well-being.
Panellists included:
Paora Puru (Ngaati Te Ata Waiohua)
Councillor Richard Hills (Chair of the Planning, Environment and Parks Committee, Auckland Council)
