Mason Clinic

E Tū Wairua Hinengaro is the new building at the Mason Clinic in Point Chevalier, home to New Zealand's largest forensic mental health service, which cares for people with serious mental health needs who have been charged with or convicted of offending. The $162 million, multi-storey building covers around 10,000 square metres, with 60 beds, secure courtyards and a Green Star 5 rating.

It marks the end of a fifteen-year programme to move patients out of ageing units affected by air quality and weather-tightness issues. The design centres on patient recovery in a secure setting, with cultural narratives woven through so the building reflects the Māori and Pacific communities it serves.

RCP provided strategic advice along with project, design and construction management, working with Health New Zealand and the project team to deliver the new building on a live, operating campus.

Opened in 2025, E Tū Wairua Hinengaro gives the country's largest forensic mental health service a modern, secure and culturally grounded home built to support recovery.
