NZ Blood

The New Zealand Blood Service developed a purpose-built Auckland facility that changed how human tissue therapies, such as skin grafts, are produced and stored. Bringing several advanced therapies and the manufacture of multiple human tissue products into a single building had not been attempted here before. To align the design with local and international standards, RCP and the NZ Blood team visited comparable facilities in Melbourne, none of which brought every service under one roof.

The build included office areas and a new Plasma Fractionation Facility to replace an undersized unit in Epsom, along with the core production areas for cell therapies and tissue banking. It housed New Zealand's first cGMP, ISO and PICS clean-room environments, temperature-controlled warehousing for blood and plasma, and a cryogenic store for the long-term preservation of tissues such as skin.
