A Safe Pair of Hands
Since starting his career in construction over a decade ago, Jared has been delivering complex construction projects and building trusted relationships throughout the industry. With expertise in managing large-scale technical projects and his background in competitive rowing, Jared brings a unique combination of leadership, teamwork, and practical delivery skills to every challenge. After joining RCP in 2019, Jared has now established himself as a growing leader in major health projects, most notably as a constant presence on one of New Zealand’s largest hospital developments.
"I find large scale major projects exciting. Typically, the biggest, most intricate projects are in the health sector, so I've sought these out throughout my career because I find them to be the most complex and rewarding. They also provide opportunities to learn, grow and extend myself."
Jared draws parallels between his sporting background and his approach to project management, offering a distinct perspective on RCP's role in the construction process. "In rowing, the person in the front sets the rhythm, the stroke of the team – like RCP. We're in the boat working alongside the team - not set off to the side calling directions. We're there with the design team and project stakeholders, setting the pace to meet the client’s expectations.”
Jared emphasises building trust and maintaining clear lines of communication in all his projects, pulling on previous experiences to lead through challenges. "Projects are a real team sport and I'd like to be viewed as a safe pair of hands—someone that's been through difficult projects, who has led a team through challenging situations and has come out the other side successfully. It’s important that people find me fair and approachable. There are formal and informal lines of communication, and people have trust in me because I've been able to demonstrate integrity."
Consistency is also a major pillar of Jared’s philosophy. "Despite ongoing changes on or around a project, we're here to get the job done – day in, day out. I like to think we’re the consistent element on project, the ones that clients can trust to deliver their projects successfully."
Outside of RCP, Jared maintains close ties to rowing through coaching and mentoring the next generation, amongst spending time with his young family.
