Director
Matt is a governance and commercial leader on complex, high-pressure public projects. His strength is in what decides whether a major project holds together, contract administration, complex procurement, programme and risk, and the difficult stakeholder interfaces that come with building in the public eye. It is work that has put him at the head of some of the South Island's largest and most significant projects.
He joined RCP in 2004, starting in Auckland on the Counties Manukau hospital redevelopment before moving south to lead the firm's newly established Christchurch office.
Much of his standing was forged in the Canterbury earthquake recovery. He helped stand up the systems and resources that made the broken central city safe and managed its demolition, and went on to hold a leadership role in RCP's project management of the Blueprint consortium behind the recovery plan for the central city. It was demanding work, carried out amid competing stakeholders and no shortage of politics, and it was work he felt personally.
He later served as Director in Charge of One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha, one of the last anchor projects of that same Blueprint, which opened in 2026 five weeks early and under budget.
Health has been the other constant in his career, and it is where his biggest project yet sits. He is RCP's lead Director on the new Dunedin Hospital, the largest hospital build the country has undertaken.
