Cale Wood brings engineering acumen and practical construction insight to RCP. His builder grandfather provided an early, tangible example of how structures are brought to life and, combined with Cale’s love for maths and problem‐solving, it set him on a path that would eventually merge technical precision with hands‑on experience.
While originally deciding whether to study medicine or engineering, an unforgettable dissection demonstration steered him away from medicine and planted him firmly on the engineering path.
After earning his engineering degree from Auckland University in 2016, Cale spent over six years in Wellington at a structural engineering firm. There, he became a registered engineer and contributed to varied projects including residential, warehouses, and even cultural landmarks like the Sarjeant Gallery.
His early career, marked by a willingness to take on challenges and a knack for getting into the nitty‑gritty of project details, eventually led him to embrace project management. “I didn’t want to be just a number cruncher in the background—I wanted to be the face that people could turn to for clarity and direction.”
Joining RCP in 2022, Cale quickly made his mark by bridging the gap between design and construction. Initially stepping in to help close out challenging projects like Queensgate and assisting on the design of 61 Molesworth St, he soon became known for his construction practicality. Cale’s technical skills really come to the fore when using his technical background and real‑world site experience to simplify complex challenges for clients and his team alike.
Beyond work, Cale is a proud father to twin girls and embraces a balanced schedule that lets him enjoy life outside the office.
