The finished hub brought together a 25-metre lap pool and a learn-to-swim pool, a two-court indoor stadium, indoor and outdoor turf and grass fields, and community and meeting spaces, with the sports hall able to convert to a banquet hall for up to 600 people.
RCP pushed the design toward operating efficiency, passive design, energy metered through a building management system, and water-quality measures that bring energy use down further. A verified annual energy audit put the finished facility among the most energy-efficient in the South Island, running on 20 percent less energy than comparable centres. The facility gives Wānaka a year-round home for swimming, sport and community events, and the room to expand as the town keeps growing.
