Biography

Steyn built his career on a straightforward vision: that the gap between projects that succeed and those that struggle usually comes down to people, not just process. It’s how well you read a room, remain versatile, and stay honest about your goals. That outlook was forged early, in environments where the stakes were high and the margin for misalignment was low.

Growing up in Cape Town surrounded by a family progressing architecture and developments, Steyn gravitated toward construction. He started on the ports before taking an opportunity that would shape the next chapter of his career. At 21, he relocated to Saudi Arabia, stepping into project management on large-scale oil and gas developments while completing his Bachelor of Construction Management. Six months became seven years.

Moving to New Zealand in 2019 and joining RCP early 2024, Steyn has continued to build on this experience. He works across project delivery and strategic client work, helping clients navigate decisions early and making sure investment is going in the right direction. He is particularly drawn to work where the outcomes extend beyond the build itself and into the communities they support.

"It's supporting something local. It's supporting something that's actually needed."

As his career develops, Steyn is focused on the strategic side of client work and investing in the people around him. He sees mentoring and working closely with clients as two sides of the same coin. Both require you to listen well, ask the right questions, and care about the outcome.
