Building Effective Systems and Thinking Big
Chris Goldsmith loves transformation. From leading national-scale initiatives to overhauling complex systems, he has spent his career solving the most intricate challenges in business, technology, and government.
With degrees in chemistry, computer science, commerce, and an MBA, Christopher has always viewed the world through a high-level and systems lens. “People throw around the term big-picture thinker - I’m a broad-picture think, I can break that picture down into its atomic components and rebuild it into something that works.”
With a career defined by major transformation projects, Chris was invlolved in deploying Vodafone’s 3G network across New Zealand and Australia, was instrumental in restructuring Clear Communications, and led a complete overhaul of IT and business operations at Waikato District Health Board, laying the groundwork for digital transformation in healthcare. He also spearheaded Connected Health, the only national health initiative to be fully delivered, integrating New Zealand’s healthcare providers through a seamless digital network.
Most recently, Chris spent 14 years with New Zealand Police, leading some of the organisation’s most significant changes, including replacing its entire radio network in a billion cross-sector initiative.
Significantly, he also played an important role in the government’s COVID-19 response, working as the principal strategic advisor on policies that shaped the country’s pandemic strategy. “When COVID hit, I was there on Day 2. We were making decisions in real time—closing the country, setting up business support, defining alert levels. No one knew what was coming. It was about critical thinking, fast adaptation, and making sure New Zealand could navigate the unknown.”
When RCP secured a major communications network project, his previous telecommunications experience made him the ideal choice to lead the business case and delivery. Chris is focused on growing our advisory and digital services and helping clients transform their ambitions into well-structured investments.
Outside of work, Christopher is just as ambitious. He has completed six Camino de Santiago pilgrimages across Spain, rebuilds pipe organs in his spare time, and plays the carillon every week. As a stage 4B cancer survivor, he embraces a simple outlook on life: “Once you survive something like that, everything else seems possible.”
